It doesn't happen very often that completely new things are developped completey from scratch. Most solutions contain issues, problems and aspects that have been solved before. Of course, reusabiltiy is the key word here in order to achieve time and cost savings. However, reusability is one of the concepts that is very widely and badly misunderstood: Because it will NOT work to gather and collect some old source code, plug it somehow together and try to adapt it for the new project. In this way you are not only not saving any time but also the quality and performance of the source code will be rather poor. Real reusability has to be taken into account from the very first moment, it has to be planned. The generic solutions need be encapsulated on an abstract level while the solution specific parts are handled on a different layer without touching the fundament.
Workplace-Template
This template encapsulates in custom designed classes the EnjoySAP components (Calendar control, ALV grid, tree control, etc.) in sach a way that only customer specific aspects need to be added or redefined. As opposed to the "classic development" with a module pool this saves 60-80% time !
The VC Toolset (Variant Configuration)
The function modules that SAP provides for the handling of products with variant configuration (VC) not only lack performance but they also get rather complicated to handle when a certain number of characteristics values is exceeded.
Xaption created an object oriented templated for efficient and fast handling of products with variant configuration. Not only does this greatly increase the performance but only in this way Xaption enabled to use variant configuration in "Make to stock (MTS)" scenarios. Until now this was only possible for production orders with relation to a customer order, a so called "Make to order (MTO) scenario.
